Drawing a naked stranger
Partager
I’ve done life drawing for many years, but it’s something very different to have someone visit me to have me draw them. Peter (not his real name) reached out to me a short while ago, wanting to do his first ever nude modelling. He was nervous, as this is something completely new to him - not just being drawn, but also as part of exploring his sexuality and being comfortable with his body. After some back-and-forth planning, we set a date.
When he arrived, despite his nerves, I could tell this was an important moment for him and that through my drawing I could connect with him, and allow him to unlock parts of himself that he keeps hidden away from the rest of the world. So it was both a privilege for me to facilitate this, and also my responsibility to make sure he knew he was safe with me, that he can be vulnerable. As an out gay man I can listen, empathise and relieve some of the shame that many of us still carry.
Peter trusted me to direct the session, so I gave him some poses as ideas, and set a variety of time limits. Quick poses allow me to warm up to drawing, and also allowed him to get used to the process. From there, I progressively increased the time. I made the drawings more detailed, and also took the time to get to know Peter, as well as sharing my own stories. Using drawing as a way to connect, not just observe, really makes for a rich experience overall.
I’m happy to say, we were both very pleased with the results! You’ll just have to trust me that I drew his face well - so well that I’m covering it to preserve his anonymity ;) Below is what Peter has to say -
"I’ve always been paranoid about my body, sexuality and getting my clothes off. I came across Max’s drawings and messaged him out of curiosity, the next thing I knew I was naked infront of him. I was so nervous with the anticipation, but I had nothing to worry about, he put me at ease from messaging to meeting in person. He is so friendly and the most non judgemental guy I’ve ever met. It felt amazing being naked and letting all my fears pass me while he drew me, I came away buzzing and it’s the most liberating feeling I’ve ever felt. If you’re looking to explore your nudity and build your courage go for it, you won’t be disappointed."
I’m looking forward to working with Peter again and other guys looking to have a similar experience. If you’d like your own private drawing session, check out my "Live Drawing’ page for more details :)

Kudos, Peter! The nerves you were carrying on the way in, to the buzz you enjoyed on your way home.
Max! What I enjoyed about your post is both the collection of results (top left and bottom right are real stand out!) as well as the insight to your character. You obviously have a manner and personality that calms and connects.
